Vanessa Diaz - Bio
Vanessa has been performing since the age of six, and began performing professionally in 2001. For her stage performances, Vanessa designed and modified clothes to create her own unique looks. This inventiveness naturally progressed into the creation of her own clothing line. With her interests in art and the environment, combining all aspects to create Moxie Industries was a natural evolution.
Tales of heartache, an intense night with a lover–everything is fair game for Vanessa Diaz. “I write about moments that move me, which involves risking my heart, but with out that, I would be risking my life.”
Fronting the Miami based power-pop punk band shortSTACK was a tremendous experience for Vanessa, but once the band split up in 2006 and everyone went their separate ways, Vanessa decided that it was now or never, so she packed up her car and headed west to California with her beagle Sammy. She drove from Miami to Los Angeles spending about three days on Interstate 10. Moving to LA almost seems like a rite of passage for any aspiring songwriter.
During the four years that she spent in LA she became more involved in designing clothes, something that she has been doing for years. For her stage performances, Vanessa designed and modified clothes to create her own unique looks. This inventiveness naturally progressed into the creation of Moxie Industries, an eco-friendly and socially conscious fashion, music, and art company. ” I love the beauty in creative expression. Fashion, music and art are three ways in which I express myself and am inspired by others doing so.” says Vanessa. In April of 2010 she released her first solo album, Goodbye, Hello through Moxie Industries.
“There is something truly special about moving somewhere that people don’t know you. It gives you a chance to be who you are with out attachments to the past that people insist upon.” she says about moving to LA. After some growing pains, a clothing line, solo album, creating art and an engagement that ended abruptly involving domestic violence, it was time for something else. Vanessa once again packed up her car, but this time she headed to Nashville with Sammy still by her side, until loose ends called her back home to Miami.
Now almost a year later Vanessa has written two albums worth of material. “I learned how to write from my father. We lived in the same home, but it is how we communicated best. I felt it was the only place I could really be heard. All that I have been feeling over
the past year, the self-doubt, anger, betrayal, loneliness and shattered ideals of a family have fueled my songwriting and healed my heart.” Vanessa is recording this collection of songs in hopes for a June release and the beginning of her first nationwide tour with her new Teardrop camper Zo.
